- Prepare Sesame Filling: Start by grinding the black sesame seeds in a food processor. Then, mix them with sugar and butter until a fine paste is formed. Freeze this mixture for about 15 minutes to set.
- Make Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour with water gradually. Stir until a smooth, elastic dough forms that feels like soft Play-Doh. Adjust the water if necessary for consistency.
- Form Balls: Roll the dough into a long log about 1 inch wide. Divide it into 10-12 equal pieces, flatten each piece in your palm, and place a tablespoon of the sesame filling in the center. Pinch the edges to seal each ball.
- Cook Tang Yuan: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the rice balls to the pot and cook them until they float to the surface, which should take about 5-6 minutes.
- Prepare Ginger Broth: In a separate pot, combine water, grated ginger, and brown sugar. Bring it to a gentle simmer and let it cook for 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Serve this savory broth over the cooked tang yuan.
