Description

A festive dessert made of choux pastries filled with pistachio cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 0 cups Unsalted Butter (Substitute with plant-based butter for a vegan option)
  • 1 cup Water (No substitution needed)
  • 1 cup All-purpose Flour (Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free variant)
  • 4 large Large Eggs (Add one at a time for best texture)
  • 0 cups Pistachio Paste (Substitute with finely ground pistachios mixed with honey for a homemade touch)
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream (Substitute with coconut cream for a dairy-free option)
  • 0 cups Powdered Sugar (Adjust based on desired sweetness)
  • Green Food Color (Omit for a natural look)
  • Shortbread Cookies (Optional for star toppers)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup water and ½ cup unsalted butter. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
  2. Stir in 1 cup all-purpose flour until a smooth dough forms, then return to low heat for 1-2 minutes, stirring until the dough pulls away from the sides.
  3. Beat in 4 large eggs, one at a time, until glossy and well combined.
  4. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. Pipe small mounds of the dough onto the sheets in varied shapes and sizes to create your tree’s base.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and puffed; rotate trays halfway through baking for even results.
  7. In a mixing bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream to soft peaks.
  8. Gently fold in ½ cup of pistachio paste and ½ cup of powdered sugar until the cream is thick and smooth.
  9. Set aside in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  10. Once the choux pastries are cooled completely, slice the tops off each puff.
  11. Fill generously with the pistachio cream, stacking them to create a festive tree shape.
  12. Dust lightly with powdered sugar for a charming touch.
  13. For an extra festive flair, place shortbread cookies at the top of your cream puff tree, or sprinkle with colored sprinkles before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the choux pastries are completely cooled before adding the cream filling for best results.
