Ingredients

- 3 large yellow onions
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons water (optional)
Instructions
- Peel and thinly slice the onions evenly.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat and add butter and olive oil.
- Once melted, add the onions and stir to coat them in the fat.
- Spread the onions evenly in the pan and let them cook undisturbed for a few minutes.
- Stir occasionally, keeping heat low to avoid burning.
- If sticking occurs, add a splash of water to deglaze and stir.
- Continue cooking for 30–40 minutes until onions are deep golden brown and soft.
- Use immediately or store in airtight containers.

- Store caramelized onions in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- They can be frozen for longer storage.
