Description

Deliciously cheesy and savory muffins made with ground sausage and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a muffin tin or line with parchment paper cups.
  2. Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned. Drain any excess grease and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Prepare Wet Mixture: In another bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, and beaten eggs.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Add the cooked sausage, cheddar cheese, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  6. Fill Muffin Tins: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups. Sprinkle chopped green onions on top if using.
  7. Bake: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper or use spicy sausage.
  • You can substitute the cheddar cheese with Monterey Jack or mozzarella for a different flavor.
  • These muffins can be frozen and reheated for a quick breakfast option.
  • Serve with a side of salsa or sour cream for added flavor.
