Description

A delicious savory roll filled with ham and cheese, perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry or bread dough (pre-made or homemade)
  • 200g sliced ham
  • 200g sliced cheese (such as Swiss or cheddar)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (melted)
  • Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Prepare the Dough: Roll out the puff pastry or bread dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle approximately 1/4 inch thick.

  3. Layer the Ingredients: Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the dough if desired. Lay slices of ham evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Place the cheese slices on top of the ham.

  4. Roll the Dough: Carefully roll the dough into a log, starting from one of the longer sides. Seal the edges by pinching the dough together.

  5. Prepare for Baking: Place the roll seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with melted butter and then with the beaten egg to achieve a golden crust. Make several diagonal slashes across the top with a sharp knife.

  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the roll is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is cold before rolling to maintain its flakiness.
  • Experiment with different cheeses or add herbs and spices to the filling for variety.
  • Serve with a side salad or dipping sauce, such as marinara or garlic aioli, for added flavor.
  • For a crispier texture, allow the roll to cool slightly before slicing.
