Description

A delicious recipe for savory meatballs served with creamy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 kg potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 50g butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Olive oil (for frying)
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth (for gravy)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • Cooked green peas (for serving)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs:
    1. In a large bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let it soak for a few minutes.
    2. Add ground beef, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and parsley to the breadcrumb mixture. Mix thoroughly.
    3. Shape the mixture into medium-sized meatballs.
  2. Cook the Meatballs:
    1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    2. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
    3. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Mashed Potatoes:
    1. While the meatballs are cooking, boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
    2. Drain and return the potatoes to the pot.
    3. Add butter and milk to the potatoes and mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Prepare the Gravy:
    1. In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add a bit more oil if necessary.
    2. Sprinkle flour and stir well, cooking for about 1 minute.
    3. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Assemble and Serve:
    1. Plate a portion of mashed potatoes, top with meatballs, and drizzle with gravy.
    2. Serve with a side of cooked green peas.
    3. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the mashed potatoes.
  • Ensure meatballs are browned evenly by shaking the pan occasionally while cooking.
  • If the gravy is too thick, adjust the consistency by adding more broth as needed.
