Description
A delightful recipe for homemade strawberry glazed doughnuts that are fluffy, flavorful, and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110°F)
- 3/4 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- Oil for frying
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, warm milk, sugar, salt, egg, and melted butter. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
- Shape Doughnuts: Punch down the dough and roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut using a doughnut cutter. Reroll scraps and repeat.
- Second Rise: Place cut doughnuts on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
- Prepare Glaze: In a blender, puree strawberries until smooth. In a bowl, combine strawberry puree, powdered sugar, lemon juice, and milk. Mix until smooth.
- Fry Doughnuts: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry doughnuts a few at a time until golden brown, about 1 minute per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Glaze Doughnuts: Dip warm doughnuts into the strawberry glaze, covering completely. Place on a wire rack to allow excess glaze to drip off.
Notes
- Dough Consistency: The dough should be slightly sticky but not overly wet. Adjust with a little more flour or milk if necessary.
- Oil Temperature: Keep the oil temperature consistent to avoid soggy doughnuts.
- Fresh Strawberries: Use ripe strawberries for a vibrant and flavorful glaze.
- Cooling: Allow doughnuts to cool slightly to help the glaze set nicely before serving.
